Sapphire McIntosh: Squeaky Bum Time

Squeaky Bum Time is a high-energy, physical stand-up hour about growing up fast and learning to survive under pressure. Borrowing its title from the football phrase for those tense final minutes of a match, the show explores being thrown into adulthood at sixteen and having to perform before you feel ready.

Blending sharp political satire with surreal, prop-driven set pieces, the hour combines tightly written material with theatrical physicality and sound. Recurring motifs — including my darkly comic “spam” satire on British identity and scarcity — heighten the absurdity while anchoring the show in contemporary themes.

At its core, this is a show about resilience: how football, humour and imagination became tools for navigating instability and expectation. The tone is playful and kooky, but grounded in lived experience.
