Weird comedy soul mates* Elf and Ryan perform their debut show. Part clown show, part autobiography, it’s an absurd, camp comedy about ping-pong, the DDR and Angela Lansbury. Expect improvisation, time travel**, niche film references and lemons. Graduates of Ecole Gaulier. Imagine The X-Men on a budget (this is because one of the characters has telekinesis and we have had to do a lot of mime for the effects we can’t afford). It’s going to be
brilliant. And weird.

“Elf Lyons and Ryan Lane  have created something unquantifiable […] *Hilda & The Spectrum* is giddy, joyous lunacy.” 4 stars – The Wee Review

Ahir Shah and Nish Kumar perform a bunch of new material. Ahir went to Edinburgh this year, so his new material will be decidedly shaky. Nish didn’t go to Edinburgh this year, so his “new” material will be almost unacceptably polished. Still, it’s all for charity, so quit complaining.
All proceeds will go to the housing charity Shelter.

We will look at the very basics of stand up comedy from learning how to write a simple “pull back and reveal” joke to how to apply for gigs on the London circuit. The courses will not only cover detailed joke writing, but also performance and how to start gigging – and will culminate in your own gig at Angel comedy!

  • Day 1

    10:30 am - 4:30 pm
  • Day 2
    Sunday14/01/2018
    10:30 am - 4:30 pm

From 1897 to 1962 the Grand Guignol horror theatre of Paris thrilled audiences with gory spectaculars that would give birth to today’s horror film genre. Performed in an over-the-top melodramatic style, Grand Guignol by today’s standards lends itself to comedy, but is also gritty and nightmarish enough to keep audiences squirming in their seats and shielding their eyes.

In this workshop we will create larger-than-life characters ranging from the criminally insane (and their victims) to mad doctors who calmly carry out horrific operations in the name of medicine. We will learn to make gory special effects (which we will use excessively–Blood will flow! Heads will roll!) and explore how sound effects can make our frightful reenactments all the more cringe inducing.
