Welcome To Angel Comedy

2 venues. 7 nights a week. 100% funny.

In the words of Time Out, we’re “a comedy institution”.

Angel Comedy brings you free, top notch comedy every night of the week at our original venue, upstairs at the Camden Head, Islington.

Since the November of 2016 there’s been even more incredible comedy on offer, with the launch of our very own venue, the Bill Murray, just round the corner on Queen’s Head Street. As well as a programme of amazing comedy, there’s courses, rehearsal space, community projects and more. Oh, and it’s also a lovely pub.

See the best acts from the TV and comedy circuit without having to book a babysitter!

The focus of this workshop is to unlock the writer in you by following your instincts as an actor/performer/improviser.

We will start by building rich characters on our feet. Through guided improvisation we will zero in on your character’s idiosyncrasies, voices, postures, and world view. Once we have a handle on these new personas we can use them as powerful writing tools.

Chicago-style long-form improvisation workshops, to free your goddamn mind. Embracing everything – mistakes, hesitations and nonsense as gifts and genius. Suitable for All Levels. If you’ve come along before, we’ll be extending each of the techniques further but we’re also very very embracing of complete beginners.

These workshops are stand-alone drop-ins so there is no obligation to come to all of them but of course if you do we’ll build and build. You can pick and choose which workshops you come to.

For people who have never done stand up comedy or new comedians looking to sharpen their act. We will look at the very basics of stand up comedy from learning how to write a simple “pull back and reveal” joke to how to apply for gigs on the London circuit. The courses will not only cover detailed joke writing, but also performance and how to start gigging – and will culminate in your own gig at Angel comedy!
