Still, he’s won awards for comedy – The Malcom Hardee Award, the Mervyn Stutter Spirit of the Fringe Award, Chortle Award for Best Venue (he is a venue) – and been nominated as Best MC in the entire country, so at least you’ll be pleasantly relaxed and get a laugh at his misguided attempts to try. • Monday05/02/2018

JAMES VEITCH is going to be testing whether things he finds funny at home are also funny on stage. He’s been funny in the past so there’s a good chance he’ll be funny then too. That being said, come prepared for that awkward thing that happens when he says a joke and no one laughs and then he realises he’s left out, what amounts to, a critical piece of information. Anyway. There’ll be slides and he may even read a story he’s written. Also, it’s insanely cheap so just book tickets anyway.

  • Monday05/02/2018
    9:00 pm - 11:00 pm

A night of stand-up and miscellany from the perennial innovator Simon Munnery. The multi award-winning alternative comedy legend offers up jokes, tales, poems and experiments – plus top guests. ‘A genuine innovator in the land of the samey, and an annual must-see for any comedy connoisseur’ (The Guardian).

MC’d by Guilty Feminist’s Jen Brister, come and raise some pads with Sara Pascoe, Cariad Lloyd, Rachel Parris and Ellie Taylor.

From 1897 to 1962 the Grand Guignol horror theatre of Paris thrilled audiences with gory spectaculars that would give birth to today’s horror film genre. Performed in an over-the-top melodramatic style, Grand Guignol by today’s standards lends itself to comedy, but is also gritty and nightmarish enough to keep audiences squirming in their seats and shielding their eyes.

In this workshop we will create larger-than-life characters ranging from the criminally insane (and their victims) to mad doctors who calmly carry out horrific operations in the name of medicine. We will learn to make gory special effects (which we will use excessively–Blood will flow! Heads will roll!) and explore how sound effects can make our frightful reenactments all the more cringe inducing.
